Understanding the Electoral Framework
Understanding the electoral environment in which independent candidates function is essential before beginning the registration procedure. Namibia conducts both municipal and national elections for governance.
During Namibia’s general elections, independent candidates unaffiliated with political parties were consistently permitted to run for president and local government positions. Party Lists hold the seats in the National Assembly; the voter does not directly elect them.
Eligibility Criteria
To register as an independent candidate, you need to fulfill the requirements listed below:
- Hold citizenship in Namibia.
- Make sure your name is on Namibia's voter list.
- At the time of nomination, not be a part of a political party that was registered for the election.
- Not having a competent court rule that you are unable to run for office.
