Association of Independent Candidates Namibia

An independent candidate’s interests are represented by the non-governmental Association of Independent Candidates (AIA), a non-profit organization that works to further democracy in Namibia. Namibian politics can be altered by independent candidates. AIA’s goal is to become the nation’s preeminent membership organization for independent candidates.

The key principles of the Association of Independent Candidates (AIA) Namibia are centered on promoting direct democracy and supporting independent candidates. Here are some of the core principles:

Nobody should not be left behind-This principle is rooted in the pledge made by preceding presidents that no Citizen should be left behind and emphasizes that every man and woman should have the right to stand as a candidate for all bodies that make laws.

Accountability to the electorate. The AIA seeks to ensure that independent candidates answer to the people who cast their ballots in their areas as well as the principles upheld by the association.

The association works to develop leaders who are dedicated to justice and the constitutional process.

The constitution of the AIA requires its members to behave both democratically and professionally.

The mission of the AIA’s objective is to enable independent candidates to effectively represent their communities.

The AIA bases its activities and actions on these values, which also serve as a guide for its legal challenges and support for electoral reforms that would increase the involvement of independent candidates in Namibia’s democratic processes.
